A walk, around the neighbourhood

March 8, 2008 by hamsterlife

My first walk around the neighbourhood!       Thursday 20/7/06

Dear Diary,                                A cooling and cloudy day

This morning, was as usual, I woke up in the second level hiding house with
Baby and we did the usual things, greet Sarah when she came in to refill our bowls before leaving for school at 6:30am! Then, we prepared breakfast, played around with the wheel and dug around in the bedding and of course, napping at our usual-8:45am.

Sarah came home as usual but this time, she did not go straight to having lunch. She put Baby and me in this interesting new cage with a bright yellow handle. Ooh… That cage was certainly interesting. Sarah brought us downstairs (Yay!) I smelt the delicious aroma of Sarah’s rice and broccoli and soup and chicken etc. Ahh…… how scrumptious! I love it when I get to smell human food because it is SO great-smelling.

Then, after lunch, I stared sadly at Sarah’s empty plate and decided that whatever went into humans’ mouth never went into hamsters’ mouth. Baby nudged me and I turned to ace her.

“We’re going on a walk! A real one , around the neighbourhood!” She exclaimed in an excited way.

“Uh-huh. Wow… Ok.” I muttered, my eyes were fixed on the fat yellow and white pussy cat staring at me through its cruel yellow eyes on its squashed-flat face. It was so ugly I nearly burst out laughing until it lunged… Fortunately, a big Labrador strolled by and the cat, frightened out of its wits, leapt into the nearby drain. Ha!

I turned away from the cage bars for a while and nibbled on some dried fruits and rolled oats when all of a sudden, the carrier cage was pulled downwards. Oh…I see, we had sat down on a bench, that’s all. To my surprise, Sarah and Daryl did not just sit down and chat, they opened up two plastic containers, one containing their delicious ham and cheese sandwiches and the other containing a tissue wrapping something. Guess what the tissue held on its inside? Gigantic sunflower seeds! They were huge, larger than I’ve ever seen. Amazed, I pressed my snout against the cage bar and squeaked in delight. There were 2 and 1 was given to Baby while the other 1 to me. I cracked the huge thing open eagerly, it’s hard black and brown shell was real tough but determined to get the delicious seed out, I cracked it with my fronts teeth and pried it open with my paws. Mmm…… How delicious! As I tasted the familiar taste but better this time, I just licked and chewed and knawed until only little crumbs were left. You should know what happened next-we went home and had a great day.

                                        LOVELY Baby            Monday 17/7/06

Dear Diary,                   A sunny and joyful day

Last night, guess what, Baby admitted that she liked me and I nearly fainted! I got to sleep in her cosy nest for the time-being and she did not mind me flattening part of her nest or munching on some of her rolled oats and dried fruit.

I looked around for Baby, thinking she would be still asleep but I climbed down the tunnel and to my surprise, there she was, setting up two meals more both of us. I scurried towards her.

“Fresh hay, rolled oats, pellets and sunflower seeds for breakfast today dear Maxie!” she said, strolling towards me. ‘Dear Maxie’ sounds nice…

After breakfast, Baby and I ran about the cage, we were very active as it was only about 5:45 am. Sarah came ion soon after to refill our food bowl. Mmmm…extra strawberry biscuit and some yummy barley and corn. Sarah picked me up and patted Baby on the head. I like the way she lets me lick her fingers without saying ‘Ewww!’ or ‘Urgh!’

Being able to communicate with Baby anytime makes me feel a lot more occupies while Sarah is away at school. Baby is rather comical and very gentle though she has this queer habit of leaping onto my back all of a sudden.

I love Baby’s cool nest and there are these nice shell sandwiches she makes; sunflowers seed shells clamping nuts and peas and carrots. Yum!

Yahoo! Baby is my girlfriend, it makes me feel so grown up and not pudgy and childish, wait till Dave and Pansy, my good friends, find out!

Baby rocks.

Trapped in love and under the wheel

March 6, 2008 by hamsterlife

                                  Trapped                               Sunday 16/7/06

Dear Diary,                            A ½ drizzly ½ cloudy day

I was feeling very active early in the morning, as you know, I’m nocturnal. I ran furiously on my wheel for a long, long, long time. All of a sudden, there was a loud “Click!” and the wheel came crashing down and as a result, it trapped me under it. I was very nervous and terrified, there were holes in the wheel but I was tooscared to notice, I felt suffocated.

I called out for Baby several times but I guess she was either sleeping or the wheel was muffling my voice. Out of desperation, I banged my head against the wheels’ side. ‘OW!!!!!!!!!’ Bad idea. Baby heard my cry of pain and came tumbling down the tunnel from her nest.

She pushed and scrabbled at the wheel, trying to dig underneath to get to me. I tried to help but it only gave me sore paws. I kicked the wheel and lay down, feeling doomed. I think I must have been trapped in there for more than 5hours until Sarah entered the room looking sleepy. She didn’t notice me at first but when she refilled the food bowl, she quickly picked the wheel up and fixed it back on. I squeaked to thank her and went to enjoy the food.

While I was busy licking my paws and rolling in the bedding, Baby came over and gave me a gentle kiss on my cheek. I stood rooted to the ground as she tried to pull me to her nest. Dumfounded, I followed her. Her nest was really neat and beautiful and then, all of a sudden, she hugged me!

“Don’t ever give me such a scare ever again!” she said with a relieved look.

“Oh…Ok…yes…alright.” I stuttered, still flabbergasted.

                                                      Sarah’s School                Friday 14/7/06

Dear Diary,                            A cloudy and breezy day

Today, was an absolutely petrifying yet amazing and fascinating day, Sarah brought me to her school. If I’m not wrong, it’s HENRY PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL. There were so many children and staring at their every movement tired me out. As I settled down to sleep for a moment, the students of the school started singing their National Anthem!

My eardrums nearly burst and I cowered next to Baby, She just stared at me as if I was crazy, is she deaf? Then, the students ended their assembly and everything went haywire! They started lining up and leaving the hall, over the hubbub of noise, I could faintly hear Baby saying ‘Stuff your ears with bedding you silly Maxie!’ I tried it and it worked, it really does alright. In class, about the whole of Sarah’s class crowded around Baby and me.

I whimpered and ran into my nest. There was this girl in particular, yes, Tasha, she kept holding me and wouldn’t pass me over to the other friends. I struggled and squealed but she claimed I was just showing my affection towards her. Peuw! I was trying to escape and she said I like her!?! In the end, I bit her, yes, I did, I really did but guess what, she tightened her grip on me and Sarah kept telling her to stop it but she just smiled and said every hamster liked that.

Finally, she let go of me and mind you, she didn’t place me gently on the table, she dropped me, practically dropped me on the cold, hard floor. Sarah was very angry and told her form teacher, Ms. Kwok. Ms. Kwok took Tasha aside to talk to her. Scary, she DROPPED me! Baby checked me all over for injuries when I returned to her. Then, it was recess and Sarah’s friends, who were much kinder to me held me and stroked me so I licked them and nuzzled their fingers, they deserved it for being so gentle. School is kind of interesting but Tasha is FREAKING CRAZY, HAS SHE GOT SOMEHING AGAINST ANIMALS OR WHAT!?!  UGLY TASHA.

SCARED AND MESMERISED,

MAXIE THE POOR, BULLIED HAMSTER.

Lady meets lady and leaves me out

                                 Lady meets Lady                   Tuesday 11/7/06

Dear Diary,                        A nice, warm and cloudless day

The past few days have been awfully great with little miss pretty baby. I introduced her to Snowy today and Arina, Arissa and Aria came over. This morning, I woke up in my beautiful nest made of tissue and hay before going downstairs for a sip of water. Everything was as per normal until Snowy arrived.

I hugged her and gave her some melon seeds as a welcome gift and after that, she walked off, thoroughly interested in Baby. Sarah let us out for hamster ball exercise and lots and lots of fun, I always get special privileges when Arina and her sisters come over.

Snowy was actually invited into Baby’s nest! No fair! She has got so many rules and doesn’t allow me to enter yet but allows Snowy in even though she hardly knows Snowy!?!

*See below*

She sure has got a whole lot of rules…I was very bored because the ladies were busy chatting and playing and eating snacks and I felt terribly left out. Then, I was so sad and bored, I felt like no one cared I was there, they just walked past without a ‘Hi!’ or ‘Let’s go play!’

Just when I was about to sulk under the wheel, Daryl lifted me out with his gentle hands and popped me into this new cage, or rather a fish tank. I could dig down really deep because there were loads of bedding all over and the ladies came down too.

‘Yippee! Whee! Yahoo!’ I squeaked while bouncing up and down. Then we were brought to the nearby park in this cute carrier cage and I really loved the scenery, great day for me!

He’s gone REAL fast

                                             Sad Day                        Monday 10/7/06

Dear Diary,                                                     A little drizzly day

It’s weird, Baby has only been here for one full day and he’s leaving. Well, he nips but back to the pet shop? No way. But maybe that place suits him best, hamsters have different likes and dislikes. I do have some good news though, a female hamster named Baby the no. 2 is taking over Baby’s place!

I think she’s beautiful. She’ll be my bestest friend from now on. I mean, I think she looks quite friendly and she has nice eyes like snowy with cute ears are far slimmer than me. Anyway, I will live in the same cage as her!

3 hours later…

Yawn!!! I just woke up from my afternoon snooze and Baby was right there, wanting to make friends.

“Hi, I’m Maxie, do you like my cage?” I asked her shyly, wanting to make friends quickly.

“Yes, it’s big and comfortable, by the way, I’m called Baby and it’s great to meet you.” She answered and from then on, we became good friends. She is quite vain and petite and I like how kind and gentle she is with me. During lunch time, I spent so much time chatting to her about Hamistry that I completely lost my appetite. I ate a pellet or two and then a few dried corns and then I just carried on talking to her.

Baby is a real eye catcher and when I say that, I mean it…I like her…heehee. One thing I know about her is that she really is very neat.

Baby and I are the best of friends and I hope to make it stay like that. I have to maintain a good friendship bond with her and even though I find her really attractive, I should wait till she warms up a bit with me before starting to get more comfortable with her. She is very friendly and I am sure we will be able to find a lot of things we have in common, it’s really easy to strike up a conversation with her and I really hope that we will not have to break our friendship up or quarrel often.

‘Friendship is a ship that never sinks.’ A saying I’ll always remember, once again, Snowy taught me it. GOODBYE, CHOWTIME, MAXIE THE FRIENDLY HAMMY!

A normal ordinary example of a day

A normal day in Sarah’s house               8/7/06 Saturday

Dear Diary,

A plain and cloudy dayToday waking up was not as difficult. I woke up to see the Sun shining in brightly as I am nocturnal; I had been running madly on my poor wheel the whole night. (I ran until I practically flew off.)

I got up to have a morning stretch on the cage bars and I was greeted by the gritted teeth of Baby and his piercing dark eyes. It made me worried and scared…was he mental? I hate it when I get scared, I shiver and my fur makes my skin itch, I have got to practice bravery. Soon, after waiting and sleeping and tumbling down my tunnel about 6 to 8 times, Sarah walked in.

Oh, she didn’t have school today? Sarah changed my food. From my old dried food, she put in new dried food, peanuts and some rolled oats…mmm… Daryl changed Baby’s food, he filled Baby’s bowl with carrots, dried food and hay with corn. The ungrateful Baby bit him. He has got to learn some manners.Sarah placed me near her mother just for fun and her mother almost screamed! Brave me! I also know this toddler named Jason a.k.a Jar. I have gathered that he is very naughty, kind of chubby and loves to open my cage door. I also tried cabbage today together with a whole 30 minutes of exploration and more!

I am very glad to say that I have passed the fitness test for hamsters buy climbing the vertical rope ladder Sarah made me and the swaying bridge Daryl made for Baby and me.Now, I’ll need a bit of sleep and some snacks so don’t disturb

This is Baby, don’t tell him I talked about him or he’ll kill me.

A Hamsterific Day!

March 6, 2008 by hamsterlife

A hamsterific day for me!          7/7/06        Friday

Dear Diary,

Sunny, plain dayToday, I woke up having a funny feeling. A feeling that I was all alone in a dark room…creepy. I huddled up in a corner it was so scary without sis here to stay and talk to me. Then, I did as sis had always said, think about good things, be positive and WOW! The lights were switched on with a ‘Click!’.

I scurried towards the cage bars to get a good look.My owner picked up my cage and shocked me with a sudden turn but YAY! We were going downstairs, not that I know what is downstairs. Downstairs is really beautiful!

There are sofas and a large TV! Sarah set my cage down on the side table and I gazed around in amazement. The smell here was very different, not like the smell of a pet shop at all. Sarah picked me up gently, it was really quite like an elevator like my sis, Snowy says. Then, Sarah had breakfast and left for school.

Greatest day ever!                  Same day and weather

Dear Diary,

This is the second part of my day. Guess what, it is also the greatest part of the day! First thing I found out is that there is this little Winter White now living here. He is called Baby. He is very aggressive, I looked at him through my cage bars and he glared back before biting his cage bars and baring his teeth at me.WI was not taken to Sarah’s house but to a flat where there was this pink cage with this other hamster inside and this hamster was…SNOWY!!! Sarah’s friends, Arina, Arissa and Aria had bought her.

Yes, now she would be able to visit me almost every weekend. Yes! Yippee! Yes!My cage was placed next to hers and we chatted and did what we used to do together when we were let out onto the floor of the flat. I was patted a lot and it kind of scared me but I stayed still and only started moving about freely again when I was popped back into my cage.

Yahoo, reunited with my beloved sis, Snowy!

I also got to sample carrots and I got a new knawstick! I am so happy I can dance!

Hamster,

Still in the pet shop

March 6, 2008 by hamsterlife

Dear Diary,                                    A fine cloudy day   July  2006

ThursdayToday was a great day as well as a traumatizing one. It all started while I was just strolling about my tank, admiring the whole pet shop when a customer walked over and stared at me. I froze, I was going to be taken, taken away by a nasty human to a nasty place in a very nasty cage! I would lose my dear sister and all my friends.  No! I informed my sis about the terrible situation and she got up from her sleep but it was all too late… I was soon lifted out into this big green cage. At first, I thought I was dreaming but no, It was real, I was lifted out of the pet shop and into a large thing which the humans called a ‘car’.  No way, I thought but it was really happening.

I prayed and prayed to be reunited with my sister and I don’t know why but I have quite a strong feeling that it might happen.
